A field app for fiber technicians that runs in the browser
Technicians open FiberAdmin in their phone’s browser and add it to the home screen. There is nothing to install from an app store, the app speaks their language, and each person sees only the jobs assigned to them.
Today’s jobs, in order
The Today screen shows the current job with a timer and the rest of the day below it, sorted by time. A route link opens Google Maps with the day’s stops, nearest first. Each job has buttons to navigate to the address, call the customer and jump to the job’s comments, along with the description and instructions from the office. Technicians set their own status: en route, on site, in progress, blocked or needing a follow-up.
Clock in on arrival
On arrival, the technician clocks in on the job. That records the start time, sets the job to on site and, if the technician allows it, saves their position at that moment for the office map. The position is deleted after 24 hours and no location history is kept. Clocking out happens automatically when the job is submitted. The Time tab shows each person’s own hours, and time off is requested from the app too.
A completion form in clear steps
Closing a job goes through result, details, materials, extra services, photos and signature. For installations, the details step asks for building type, laying method, ONT lamps and the ONT serial number; repairs ask for root cause, fault location and action taken. Photos are taken with the phone’s camera and sorted into categories. A successful job needs at least one photo, and the customer can sign on the screen.
Basements and dead zones
Fiber work happens in cellars and stairwells with no signal. While the technician fills in the form, the answers, material quantities and signer’s name are saved on the phone, so a dropped connection or a closed browser tab doesn’t lose anything. Uploading photos and the signature, and the final submit, need a connection. Without one, the app says the draft is saved and asks the technician to reconnect.
How it works
- 1Open the link on the phone and add FiberAdmin to the home screen.
- 2Start the day from the Today screen and follow the route link.
- 3Clock in on arrival and update the status as the work goes on.
- 4Fill in the completion form step by step, with photos and materials.
- 5Submit. The clock stops and the job goes to the office for review.
Questions
Do technicians need to download an app?
No. FiberAdmin runs in the browser on Android phones and iPhones and can be added to the home screen like an app. There is no app store download, and updates arrive the next time the page loads.
Does the app work without signal?
Partly. The completion form, material quantities and signer’s name are kept on the phone while the technician works, so nothing typed is lost. Opening pages, uploading photos and the signature, and submitting the job need a connection.
Which languages does the technician app support?
English, Albanian, German, French and Italian. The app follows the phone’s language, and each person can switch to another one.
Is the technician’s location tracked?
There is no continuous tracking. The position is recorded once, when a technician clocks in on a job and allows location access, and it is deleted after 24 hours. It is used to show the office where crews are on the map.
